    been having weird dreams
Suddenly I don't know if I have made the right choice in social work.

Social workers deal with pain and grieve.
I don't know if I can take it without falling apart myself.
In the name of professionalism, we have to be the rational one. We make plans, and follow our plans and make changes when necessary.
But when faced with pain? can we still think rationally?
suddenly i'm afraid of pain, even if it's not mine. but the effect it can have on you.
As we get busier in life, some things get forgotten, but when it decides to haunt you it's like a punch in the face.

I guess as we grow older we gain strength and power that we didn't use to have. We overcome weaknesses that we couldn't overcome.

    *edit*
now that I'm much more rationale and not so emotion spurred, I guess I can make more rationale comments. lolx
My friend had this client that cried for nearly 2 hours during a session and my friend just stayed beside her. I seriously wouldn't know what to do. I could have put on the professional hat and stay clam (i guess) but my insides would be all topsy turvy. I wouldn't be able to think about how the direction of how the session should go etc etc. There was once where I got so excited by a piece of good news my client brought me that I guess I got a bit off track. Things got a bit way over my head.
I think I am seriously a very emotional person. I also hate covering up emotions. I guess this isn't going to be easy.

Ohya. I'm looking for old APSS/ s27 pics! nudge me on msn if u have them k! hehe

    boredddd ;5:18 PM
I just (ok.. maybe not just) realised that I like to ask stupid questions and answer in stupid ways like I just did
    Arghhh
How am I going to survive in the working world nxt time like that???!!! Especially if I am going for hospitality and tourism which is something I really really really want to try out. But the short stinct at my temp job has convinced me that to survive in the working world especially the corporate world, wits are a personal attribute that one must have. Working is a whole new arena that is totally different from my safe, happy studying world that I have always been in. It defnately isn't just about working hard and expecting equivalent results to be harvested.
It even more so applies to a sector which works with people.
Talking smart and reacting fast seems to be the key to sucess.
Social work although is also a people-sector, however is a whole different arena from one that deals with clients that generate money. Because the social work world that I have been exposed to deals with clients that are generally of the low-income type. Probably because of their needs and higher depency for survival on the worker, I think they probably become less demanding and you tend to put less effort in the way I present yourself to them. Buy hey! we are also professionals who have been professionally trained!
Anyway, my whole point is that if I want to go into hospitality and tourism or even want to be successful in the social work field, I guess I need to be faster mentally and be smarter in talking. But I guess that can be learned along the way or not..?.
I shall be undunted by challenges and make my way into the hospitality industry!!!
ok.. the reason why I have been babbling so much is becasue I am very very very bored!!! There is nothing for me to do!!! No calls coming in, no clients coming in!! only people leaving the office. It is nearly 7pm by the way. I'm finishing at 7.30pm. Weehee!! I can't watch videos here either... But the people here are seriously very hard working. There are still people slogging inside the office now. I guess that's the price one pays for a high pay. Or they may just enjoy their work a lot??Hope it's the latter. life only becomes meaningful when you enjoy what you do. At least that's what I think.
I think it's starting to seem as if I'm writing a 10 page essay. wahahha

~signing off (hope no one calls for the big shots)

    thoughts about work ;1:16 AM
It was such a relief to end work today.
5 days of tiring work as a packer for Triumph (ya.. it is what you think it is) in the stuffy warehouse. Touching goods that are filled with dust. After the first day at work, I told myself that I would never ever accept such an assignment despite how tempting the pay may sound. I consoled myself with the fact that I was only going to be there for 5 days. I t then occurred to me that it isn't only 5 days for the aunties there.
You know what is so bad about the job?
1). The work is superrr boring! Imagine doing the same thing over and over again without having to use your brain at all Just your eyes and hands. l. (this reminds me of what ah pek said years ago. not to take up such jobs because you end up being no different from a machine. yeah. it's true. lolx) Your eyes get tired. And how many Aunties have I seen squinting their eyes over small price tags. I check the clock every now and then during work only to get disappointed each time that only 15 mins or so has passed when I thought it was more. Ok.. The work isn't challenging and brain stimulating enough. On the other hand, if the work is too challenging, I get worried. Ironic is it. lolx
2). Maybe I shouldn't be commenting so much on how the place operates because I do not know the place well enough. But a few of the temp staff and I have formed our own impressions about the way things are operated. I shall not elaborate too much already. lolx
3). Sometimes I do wonder if not being educated and not being local means having to endure the rush, scoldings etc...

But all in all, not everything is bad about the job. There is this female supervisor that is really really kind and I mean really really kind. For one, she takes the effort to find out what is wrong before putting blame on someone and scold them. Ok.. I think she may blame but I have not heard her scold anyone before. The impression I got of the place is like a food chain. The tiger eats the cat, the cat in turn eats the mice and the mice in turn eats the ants. We vent and rant at people that are below us at work. But come to think of it again. Isn't it the same everywhere? The good thing about being a temp staff is that should you get scolded you get scolded as a team. There is strength in numbers. This is true.hahax But fortunately we didn't get scolded throughout our short stay there. phew~ But I guess things were much easier on me than on the Aunties because the worst that could happen is that I get fired. And it's not as if I have a family to feed. I guess this made work nearly pressure free. But it doesn't mean that I did my work sloppily ar! lolx

I am even more determined to get a people oriented job in future. Thinking back to the times in IRAS, even though we often get scolded, but the job was fun when you know what you're doing. I want to be a social worker, then move on to working in a hotel or the tourism industry, then move on to be a wedding planner and then go back to being a social worker and probably open a shop or something for retirement. Sounds a bit messy but at least it's a plan. lolx

off to bed~ hope i get up in time for jogging tomorrow. nitex!

    picsssss ;6:53 PM

guys... go check your emails for the pics k! hahax

the KTV in chinatown is superrrr cheap la! $10 only.!from 2-7pm. free flow of drinks and a free bowl of sharks fin like thingy.
got bitten by an insect too lolx
ohya... ghost festival is here. The day before there was someone burning incense paper in the middle of the night at 2 plus am la! isn't it kind of a weird time for that?

I'm starting on a new HK series, 溏心风暴. It seems nice, but heard from hwee hong who heard from xinni that nearly everyone died in the end =_=""

Have been thinking about what I really want to do in future.
To really go into child protection? Be a child protection officer?
From what I have been hearing a CPO has to sacrifice weekends, work weird and late hours. But I don't think I love my job till that extent. But I may change my mind in future. I never know. Everything is a possibility in life.
The thing that has me really deciding against child protection is that the CPO has to be used to getting scolded.
    Why?
Imagine how a parent will react when you come with the police knocking on their door to take the child away because we think that they are unable to take proper care of their child. I can already imagine what would happen...
I think a parent will always love their child, how could they not? However, whether they really know how to take care of their child is another thing.
Anyway I think I'm thinking too far ahead. Maybe I should start thinking about this only in year 3.
Next week will be a busy week. temp job assignment for 5 days. expecting OT till 9pm everyday. I shall chieong through the 5 days! I need the $$.
I hate my hair! faster grow so that I can snip it off! lolx (a rebonding job gone haywire)
    i love sushi!
